I am a Christian wife and mother. I am a photographer and a stay at home momma. This blog is about things that make me happy, and things I enjoy doing. Finding the "happy" in each day.. Finding the joy and grace in the little moments that are easily overlooked.
My hobbies are baking, cooking, crafting, making jelly, writing, reading and building things. Some of my favorite things are my Bible, coffee, campfires, cake plates, Christmas, steak, my friends, laughing till I cry, foot rubs from my son, traveling, my church, fall, string lights, whitewater rafting, my chalkboard, cupcake wrappers, Hobby Lobby, the smell of lilacs, pretty dishes, caramel apple pie, planning birthday parties, hot cocoa, paper straws, fairs, movie nights with my family, BACON, finding clothes I love.. on SALE, lemon meringue pie, fishing, picnics, making my friends and family feel special, the color red, orchids, thunderstorms, fresh cut flowers, talks with my girlfriends, drinking out of my canning jars, frosted sugar cookies and seeing the fedex truck pull into my driveway!
On the other hand, I really dislike cold weather, seafood, cursing (especially in front of my children),
scary movies, sweet pickles, anything pickled, when people steal MY parking spaces, dogs (that I am unfamiliar with), mosquitoes, and picking weeds. (I have several friends that "love picking weeds" and "find it therapeutic" - I am perplexed by this..) And the biggest letdown ever.. When the Fedex truck rolls up and I run outside, barefoot, to see what Zoolilly sent me today and it's a package addressed to my husband from Cabellas. :( *That may or may not have happened as I was writing this.
God has blessed me with three beautiful children and a wonderful christian husband. He works hard and leads us spiritually. I truly believe that if we hadn't gotten married, that neither of us would be in the place we are spiritually now, with God. We have weathered a storm together that has brought us closer than I ever thought possible and I am thankful for it.
A typical day for me is getting up, getting the oldest two fed and off to school. I try to get some of the house cleaning done while my little angel sleeps! ;) When she gets up, she's usually willing to "help momma" pick up. After that, we migrate to the basement where I do my best to exercise for about half hour. Then we shower and get ready for the day. The hubby comes home everyday for lunch (unless it's mushroom hunting season) and I usually have food ready for him on the table. When he goes back to work, I do lunch dishes, run any errands that need done and pick up the kiddies from school. I almost always cook dinner (and lots of times dessert) and my family spends every meal together around the table. We pray together before every meal. My two year old is even a seasoned pro. Evenings are usually filled with sports and or church. We strive to have a family devotional at the end of each night, after baths and bedtime routines.
My family often thanks me for the work that I do and I appreciate it more than they know. Some days feel extremely repetitive. I try to remind myself that it's my job and honor to provide my family with a home they can relax in. I love it when my son walks in the door and says, "It smells so good in here, Mom! What's for dinner?" It brings back memories of when I was young, walking in the door after school and my mom had been cooking half the day. I love knowing that I am making memories for my kids that will last their lifetime. :) Now don't get me wrong, I don't do ALL of the housework. My kids are required to help out too.. My son's monthly allowance depends on it!
I am not afraid to discipline my children. Just ask them! I am a firm believer in being a parent and not a friend. My kids don't have cell phones, facebook or ipods filled with music that I didn't personally put there. Their salvation is my #1 job and I try my best to surround them with love and all things good.
I am a work in progress. Everyday, I strive to be a better christian woman, wife, mother, daughter and friend. Each day, I try to lead by example and do what's right. Even when no one is looking. Each day I walk closer with Jesus. I appreciate encouragement and I'll do my best to be encouraging to others.
